“I’m Obsessed!” is a weekly series where one blogger (or artist, blog reader, crafter, etsian, etc) will share what they are currently obsessed with and why. If you’re interesting in writing a post for the “I’m Obsessed!” series please email me kendra[at]likeabirdblog[dot]com

This week, we have an obsession from a fellow blogger, Andi!

First of all I just want to let you know that I am a guest blogger today so If you’re reading thinking…Hmmm this isn’t as concise as usual… it’s because it’s me and I’m not known as being a person of few words!! Today I’m guest blogging about obsession…the first thing I want to do is give my definition of obsession:

‘A constant thinking about someone or something.’

When this is not indulged there is stress, anxiety and in some cases tears. The top obsession with most people is obviously love. Mine is slightly different. Here we go:

“I’m Missy … and I’m a tarotholic…”

Yes- I read tarot cards. This snuck up on me, kind of like love does, and just hit me.
How you may ask? Well… a friend came to mine and was very excited about a find after a clear out.
It was her tarot set.
It had the cards and book to match. She wanted to give it a go and read for me. I’ve always been a fan of astrology So I thought, why not?

The beginning of a long lasting love affair…

Then what followed I could not believe. She shuffled, I cut and then she dealt.
What lay before me appeared to be my life.
At the time of the cards I was extremely emotional and going through tough relationship stuff and the cards had it all…even the 3 of swords!! For the non-tarot readers this card is pretty bad.

Yep…That was my heart right there!

As you can see, the image is pretty horrific too!! It basically represents a relationship which involves 3 people. Not good.

At the time, that was something which was happening in my life so to see the card was quite unsettling. As the reading went on, I saw my love life in pictures.
It wasn’t pretty.
My friend and I couldn’t believe that what we thought was a bit of fun was actually turning out so accurate. Now the outcome wasn’t actually positive and unfortunately it was right. There was continual heartache and hurting.

After that night, I was completely and utterly fascinated with the world of tarot. I invested in my own set (Rider Waite if you fancy joining my obsession) and began to practice. I even slept with the cards by my pillow as I was told that it allowed the cards to ‘know you’. It may sound a bit much but I wanted to embrace the world of tarot. When I read for a friend a few weeks later, it all seemed to have paid off. The cards were spot on…again!! This time in front of me I was looking at my friend’s love life in pictures. The deception, the lying and the sadness. However, there was positive talk of travel and new people. At the time she wasn’t sure of this…. about 3 weeks later she booked flights to Oz to visit friends. Case closed.

A while later, myself and Miss Faux Fur had another tarot night. We did the same thing and this time my cards were slightly more positive but still, the past relationship was showing in the cards. Why? I don’t know…he was gone and that was the end. However, you can’t fool the cards, they saw what no one else saw. He was still in my mind. For some reason, Miss Faux Fur can deliver me an accurate read and vice versa. I spotted her problems with a court case her partner was going through. I saw a delay and sure enough, a delay occurred.

However, what I will say is that don’t think that once the cards are dealt that they are your future and set in stone. The cards can change… I can see them gradually changing for me and becoming more positive. However, it comes down to me and my choices.

Yes I am obsessed with the cards and find myself reading them when I feel like I want a little insight but, we as people make our own future. The cards show what may happen, what is happening and what happened but through our own determination and own actions we can change them. You may get the 3 of swords or the tower but don’t let it worry you. Heed the warning but live your life… like any other obsession, for it to be healthy, you need to not let it rule your life.

So… there is my obsession. Tarot Cards. Whether it’s people reading mine, me reading others or researching astrology on the internet. Give it a go, you might enjoy it as much as me!
