I didn’t really have a prompt again for this week but I titled this Week 13: Block

I’m not sure if I like this page yet or not. It’s different than what I’ve been doing. I used acrylics to make the background and I almost never use acrylics anymore. And it’s very bright and blocky and not blended. Hmmm… Not sure.

(ps- I would love love love to get some more watercolor crayons for Yule! I only have the basic 10 pack!)

So I took a bit of a break. For a few weeks it was really bothering me. I wasn’t doing any art, any journaling…very little blogging. Well I’ve gotten back into blogging and after giving myself a break and realizing it was okay for me to take a break from the journal. I needed the break. I couldn’t continue, I couldn’t push through what was happening. I needed to step back, take a breath and realize that sometimes, it’s okay to put it down. And I had to realize that it’s okay that, so far, I haven’t learned anything. I started this project with the expectations of having some sort of great epiphany about myself or my art right off the bat. Now I realize that was very unrealistic. There might never be an epiphany and that’s okay.

Now I’m just enjoying, I’m experimenting…I’m journaling in front of the TV or the computer, when inspiration hits…currently not working with prompts and just letting it flow until it doesn’t anymore and then not pushing because it’s not going to help me.

I’ve done all of these pages within the last week (and that’s okay too)…I’m considering them weeks 9, 10, 11 and 12and I’ll just continue from here. It might take me longer than 1 year to do this journal but it will still by 52 pages, 52 weeks.

Week 9: Hiatus

“Hiatus: I needed a break. My body feels tired. I feel mentally worn down. I need to create again.”

Week 10: Give Thanks

“I am thankful for: – Love – Family – Having the opportunity to do what I want.
Learn to be thankful and appreciative everyday.”

Week 11: Try

“No matter what you do, remember to give it your all, remember to embrace it all, remember to TRY as hard as you can. Give life and all your experiences, dreams and choices your all.”

Week 12: Love. Inspire.

“Love. Inspire.”
(this one is my favorite and something I’ll be experimenting with farther. It’s a piece of muslin with words typed with a typewriter.)

I had this journal almost completely done on Saturday when I normally post but got busy with life and fun things so I didn’t finish it until today. Which is okay with me!

The prompt for week 8 is “nest”.

The prompt for week is “No Yellow + The Night Sky”.
This weeks prompt had two parts to it.
My boyfriend challenged me to use no yellow in my page. Take a look at the past weeks, every page has yellow in it! I can’t seem to get away from the color!
And I decided I needed a bit more than that so he said the night sky.

PS- I’ll be honest, I really don’t like this page. I feel very stuck. My pages…well, the words keep being about the same thing, over and over again. I tried to do something different. With the prompt and visually/technique wise. And it just didn’t work. I almost didn’t even post my page, but in the end…I decided to. It’s good to show pages that suck, or that we dislike because it’s okay, in the end if I don’t like it. There’s still 46 weeks for me to grow, change and like every page I create.

Here’s to hoping next week is better

The prompt for week 5 is “embossing”.

I decided to use a transparent embossing powder. On the bottom right, is the word enjoy. On the top left, I tried to do a stamp that had swirls on it but it didn’t work well. I was upset at first but then remembered that that is what my journal is for, to experiment, to try new things and to see how they work. It’s okay that it didn’t work how I wanted.
