Changing Directions

The third week of school just ended. Lots of work to do all the time. I have to turn in 11 photos a week (doesn’t seem like a lot but it is when it is film and you have to develop the film and print it yourself). I spent about 5 hours yesterday in the darkroom and printed about 6 or 7 photos, none I’m happy with.

I haven’t worked in my journal in almost a month and it’s killing me, I think that release of emotions is really helpful to me. I might start something later tonight.

This post is a bit all over the place.
I sit here listening to Meet Virginia by Train and try to remember to be inspired by the little things around me, the small things in the world we take for granted. I’m trying.

My main reason for posting?
My new change of directions….
For the last few months I haven’t been taking as many photos as I used to. I was stuck in a rut, stuck in a place that I didn’t know how to move on from. Now I’m starting to realize a bit of why I’m stuck.
I’ve been doing a lot of the same type of work for a while, using the same lighting set up and the same subjects. While it’s not always a bad thing to find something that works and continue to use it, but I’m not happy with it. I think I could do better.
I’m hoping that being in art school will push my work forward. But to where?
I’m not sure what direction to go in.
Do I want to completely change the course and do something so radically different? Or stay in this path and just…go forward with a little different ideas. I’m not sure. I know what I don’t like to shoot. I’m not big on shooting architecture, cities (this is increasingly becoming a challenge with living in a big city), sports, industrial feel to photos, candid portraits. I like fine art, I like nature, I like close ups of pieces of nature we don’t think about on a daily basis.
I feel like I want to stay in this same general direction but just go forward about 5 miles in 2 seconds. Does that make sense? I’m not sure.
I don’t know what I’m saying really.
Any suggestions for me?
