Breakfast Picnic

In the essence of being honest I’m going to share the whole story of how our breakfast picnic came to be. Ready?

Thursday evening, Scott and I were talking about taking a day trip to Erie, PA. We’ve been wanting to go and it just seemed like a good time. But after some talking, I convinced Scott to stay home from work Friday, which meant we didn’t have the gas money to get to Erie, so we decided to plan a little picnic outing closer to home! Friday, we spent most of the day indoors and I got things ready for our trip and then I remembered that I saw it was supposed to rain on Saturday. Que panic and anxiety from me! We started to plan a breakfast picnic instead (as the rain wasn’t due to start until the afternoon) but I couldn’t find any resources for good breakfast picnic food and by this point it was already about 12:30 at night, and we had to go to the store and I wasn’t tired at all. I was freaking out and about to call off the whole deal but we didn’t. We took a trip to the store and bought some food then went to bed at about 4am, with the alarms set for 7am. We didn’t get up until about 8:30am and were out the door by 9:50am. I was grumpy and tired, and had no coffee. But we got to the park and spent almost 2 hours there. Which was great, I suck at relaxing.

It was a hard time getting there but it was fun. Here’s the rest of the day:

As we were packing up the car in the morning, I felt like we had over-packed!

Picnic blanket! I got this patchwork quilt from an antique store a few months back. It’s just a sheet and I plan on putting some batting and a soft/water proof cover on the back but haven’t gotten around to it. We pinned it to a thick blanket for our outing.

Picnic Basket. We picked this up at the thrift store a few months back too. First time breaking it in! I love it. What did you pack, you ask?

Just books, no food.

Kidding!

All the food was in the cooler. We had sourdough bread, strawberries and yogurt.

When we looked up from our food, this was the view. We were at the edge of a lake. So peaceful. Random side note: we picked up a battery operated speaker for $5 a few months ago and listened to Devendra Banhart, Midlake, Birdy and some french music. It was lovely.

I think strawberries are just about the best thing ever, by the way.

We were going to make sun tea but there wasn’t really any sun so I boiled water at home and we poured it in the jar to bring with. I’ve probably mentioned before my addiction to coffee and my sad lack of interest in tea. Or rather my taste buds lack of interest. Well, I drank it and I LIKED IT. And yes, this did call for all caps there.
Tea Recipe:
2 bags of regular Lipton black tea
1 bag of red goji berry and raspberry tea (green tea)
peach juice
fresh raspberries

More tea! I took a lot of pictures of it. It was great and looked pretty.

Me and Scott.

We had several more little adventures after our picnic and all in all it was such a perfect day! We really need to go on more picnics, especially for breakfast! We eat healthier and a LOT cheaper. We’re planning a trip to Erie, PA in the next few weeks now and I can’t wait for that.
