Natural History Museum and Butterflies

For my Seminar class we had to have a concept for the whole semester. Mine is butterflies. Alright so it’s more complicated than that but I will go into full details when I finish the project.
Yesterday I took a trip to the Harvard Natural History Museum. It’s nice. Small but has some interesting displays.

Just wanted to share a few photos I took while there.

I had a lot of weird emotions while there. There are so many different butterflies in the world (I bought a small butterfly book while there and it said there are 120,000 Lepidoptera in the world, not all of them are butterflies (some moths and skippers) but still that’s a lot). And I felt a little sad and sick to see all of them pinned to a board. In a nutshell my project is about observing butterflies and why we, humans, capture them and study them and then put them on display. I’m not sure why, and I’m not sure I completely approve. Hmmm.
